It says on the MOBO description that the PCIe 2.0 X 16 slot is default disabled. Have never had that board, you probably need to look around the BIOS a bit more than anything right now, to try to enable it. I just purchased a USB 3.0 controller which is also x1. Since there is only one x1 slot, I put it into the other x16 slot (black), with no response. I tried installing a WD Green 480Gb M.2 2280 SATA IIII NAND on the 2nd SSD slot (PCIE Slot) but it could not be detected! Not in BIOS or in Disk Management. The other SSD slot (PCIE + SATA) is already occupied by Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2.2 250GB where my Windows is installed. I switched the two SSDs and now, the Samsung SSD (PCIE slot) is not. Also: Whenever the top PCIe slot / M.2 slot / RAM slots aren't working, there has to be special attention going to the CPU and the CPU socket. All those data lanes come from the CPU. So i would also suggest a CPU reseat / pins inspection. Double check you have the pcie power cable connected, you could also try another pcie cable, your psu comes with 4 of them. If this doesn't help and you've tried both gpu's in the first pcie slot and both work, it's looking like you have a faulty pci express slot.

Apparently, slot2 is PCIe 2.0 not PCIE 3.0. This is what CrystalDiskInfo tells me. What a letdown! Another user recommended moving the gpu from slot1 to slot4 then seeing if the drive could be recognized in slot1. That can't be done because the gpu would block the front audio connector and the SATA ports. Disable the igpu in bios. You may need to plug your display cable into the motherboard first to get it to display, then either disable the on board gpu or set the primary display output to pcie. Edit: definitely update the bios to the latest too, iirc many had issues with z68/77 and amd hd7000 series cards not displaying due to motherboard bios.

If your onboard video adapter doesn't work, and resetting the CMOS doesn't work, you can try putting the PCI express x16 video card you have now into the white PCIe x4 slot (the white video card slot next to the black PCIe x16 slot), and see if you can get into the BIOS to change the PCI x 16 setting.
